Apple, Google, Firefox, and Microsoft for better browsers

Microsoft, along with companies like Apple, Google, Firefox and others, announced Interop 2024, a continuation of their joint effort to make modern browsers better and capable of delivering a consistent user experience across platforms. Their goal is to "reach a state where every technology works the same in every browser."

Whether you use Edge, Firefox, or Safari, all websites should offer the same expected experience and features across all supported operating systems.best browser windows 11

It was originally announced in 2021 and was called the Compat 2021 project. It focused on cross-browser web compatibility. In 2022, the companies launched Interop 2022 for browser interoperability to identify the points that make it difficult for developers to make the web platform "more pleasant to work on". Together, Microsoft, Google and other companies implemented many improvements to the platform and are now ready to continue their partnership.

This year, the Interop project focuses on several areas, including layouts, CSS architecture, HTML elements, and more. Microsoft says Compat and Interop have greatly reduced the number of browser inconsistencies, but some differences still exist. So the attendees at Interop 2024 decided to make layouts one of their focus areas this year. There will be additional improvements to CSS to ensure it works the same way across browsers, and the Popover API in HTML that allows developers to display content on top of other elements.

In addition to the main focus areas, Interop 2024 will improve accessibility, custom properties, font size, pointer events, scrollbar styling, text directionality, and more. Each participant has already published their detailed posts detailing what's coming with Interop 2024.
