Audacity is a free multi-platform audio program for recording and editing audio files. The application is cross-platform and is thus released for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and BSD. Audacity was created by Dominic Mazzoni when he was a student at Carnegie Mellon University.
Open source Audacity audio software recently acquired by the Muse Group, which appointed a new management team responsible for the development and of course the new functions. A few days after the change, the new administration decided to add some "basic telemetry capabilities" to the software.

Audacity won the SourceForge.net Community Choice Award for Best Multimedia Program in 2007. The application can, among other things, record live audio via microphone or mixer, and digitize recordings from other media. With some sound cards and any recent version of Windows, Audacity can also record audio streaming.
Audacity can be used to post-process many types of audio files and podcasts. It can be used to integrate podcasts by adding effects such as volume normalization, track cuts, volume control (fade-in / fade-out).
