Audacity is a free, cross-platform audio program for recording and editing audio files. The application is cross-platform and is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and BSD.
Audacity was created by Dominic Mazzoni when he was a student at Carnegie Mellon University.
Open-source audio software Audacity was recently acquired by the Muse Group, which has appointed a new management team responsible for development and, of course, new features. A few days after the change, the new management decided to add some “basic telemetry capabilities” to the software.
Audacity won the SourceForge.net Community Choice Award for Best Multimedia Program in 2007.
The application can, among other things, record live audio via microphone or mixer, and digitize recordings from other media. With some sound cards and any recent version of Windows, Audacity can also record audio streaming.
Audacity can be used to post-process many types of audio files and podcasts. It can be used to integrate podcasts by adding effects such as volume normalization, track cuts, volume control (fade-in / fade-out).
