Automattic and the Internet Archive have released a free, open-source plugin for WordPress that automatically detects broken outbound links on a website and redirects visitors to Wayback Machine archived copies instead of showing them a 404 error.

The plugin is called Internet Archive Wayback Machine Link Fixer , and it was released last fall. It's available on WordPress.org, and it runs in the background scanning posts for dead links, while also checking for existing archived versions at the Internet Archive.

It also archives a website's posts to the Internet Archive whenever they are updated. If the original link comes back online, the plugin stops redirecting it.
