A train of the Thessaloniki Metro broke down while transporting passengers and came to a standstill in the tunnel shortly after Fleming station, with passengers having to walk through the tunnel to get to the next station.
For at least 10 minutes, everything "froze" on the tracks of the Thessaloniki Metro, with all wires coming to a standstill. According to eyewitnesses, the trains stopped at the stations where they were and nothing moved, with passengers waiting on the platforms.
According to the first information, the "blackout" on the tracks was caused by a train stopping and coming to rest about 200 meters before Fleming station as it encountered technical problems. As reported by passengers on makthes.gr, for this reason all trains were allegedly stopped for at least 10 minutes and then the officials managementMetro operators asked passengers not to travel east.
The passengers of the broken down train got off the train and walked through the tunnels to the next station. According to information they walked about 200 meters to reach the first nearby station. The same information states that passengers were left inside the broken down train for at least 15 minutes with closed windows and closed doors.
A few minutes later, changes to the eastbound movement were announced over the Metro loudspeakers. Specifically, citizens who want to move from N.S. Eastbound station, they should stop at University station and then go to the opposite platform and take train on track 1.
