Blue Amber Global Action coordinated by Europol

The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate participated in the Blue Amber Global Action, under its coordination , against internet fraud in the aviation sector

Police took part in the action from (32) countries, (35) airlines and travel agencies and (109) airports worldwide

The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, in collaboration with the police authorities (9) of our country's airports, carried out targeted passenger checks, based on information from airlines and travel agencies, for suspicious transactions - booking of airline tickets via the Internet Europol Operation Blue Amber 1

An international-scale joint police operation has been successfully completed in the framework of the World Anti-Fraud Action in the field of air transport, involving the services and experts of the Greek Police, during the 3-4 November 2015 two-day event.

The coordinated police operation was implemented at the initiative of Europol and for its organization at the global level, they were established (2) coordination centers, in The Hague for Europol and in Bogotá for Ameripol.

The joint operation involved police authorities from thirty-two (32) countries, thirty-five (35) companies active in the aviation industry (airlines and travel agencies) and one hundred and nine (109) airports worldwide. A supporting role in the joint venture, in terms of providing information regarding the confirmation of suspected fraudulent transactions, was played by representatives from payment card companies, Perseuss-International IATA Aviation, Eurojust and Frontex.

During the της κοινής επιχείρησης, αναφέρθηκαν περισσότερες από εκατόν εξήντα δύο (162) αναφορικά με ύποπτες για απάτη συναλλαγές από τις συμμετέχουσες εταιρείες. Ως αποτέλεσμα, πραγματοποιήθηκε έλεγχος από τις αρμόδιες αστυνομικές Αρχές, σε εκατόν τριάντα τρεις (133) επιβάτες.

The aforementioned action in Greece was carried out under the coordination and supervision of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, in collaboration with the police authorities of our country's airports and specifically: "El. Venizelos "in Athens," Macedonia "in Thessaloniki," Ioannis Daskalogiannis "in Chania," N. "Kazantzakis" in Heraklion, "Ioannis Kapodistrias" in Corfu, "Captain Vas. Konstantakopoulos" in Kalamata, "Diagoras" in Rhodes and the state airports of Santorini and Mykonos. In this context, targeted passenger checks were carried out, based on information received from airlines and travel agencies, regarding fraudulent transactions - booking airline tickets, via the Internet (fraud notification s).

During the global action in our country, a total of four (4) alerts were forwarded to five (5) passengers with information on suspicious transactions - bookings via Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" and Odysseas Airport Elytis ".

As to the results:

  •  Two (2) people were arrested and formed against the case file.
  •  Three (3) people did not appear to make the flight, but they were formed with regular proceedings against them, which would be submitted appropriately.

The Global Action Against Internet Fraud in the aviation sector is part of the business «Blue Amber».
