Bluesky was founded in 2021, and in March 2023, the social network began inviting people to test the beta version. Jacky Dorsey, who is a Bluesky board member, announced it as an independent project under the umbrella of Twitter (now X) in 2019. The initial focus was to create an open protocol for decentralized social media.
After opening access yesterday, Bluesky has crossed 4M users! 🎉

Bluesky is one of a number of X alternatives that have sprouted up in recent years, including Mastodon and Meta-owned Threads.
However, its initial success has not been as rapid as that of Threads, which attracted tens of millions of users in its first week of launch last year. One reason behind the success of Threads is the fact that it is a spin-off of Instagram and users do not need a separate account to use the service.
