There was an explosion in Bluesky's followers last week and it hasn't stopped since.
More than a million people became Bluesky members, and more importantly, people who already had accounts started using them again.
It's the biggest active departure from Twitter since Elon Musk took over.
The Bluesky is different and in my opinion, better than X and Threads because it's run like a non-profit and not owned by some oligarch.
It's also decentralized and federated, meaning it's moving towards a future where users will “own” their data, their audience, and be able to take it anywhere else they want.
The move away from social networks owned, controlled and distorted by the world's richest people and most powerful corporations to a decentralized platform not owned and controlled by billionaires is one of the most promising things to happen on the internet .
It's been a very difficult year for people on the Internet, as artificial intelligence begins to infect everything and billionaires continue to make our lives difficult. The migration to Bluesky is good news and I hope it continues.
Bluesky seems to be more alive and full of real people than any other social media network on the internet in a long time. It has surpassed Threads as the current most popular app in the App Store and now has more than 15 million users in total. If you're on Bluesky, you can find us here.
