Brave browser “introduced Brave Origin, a simplified version of its browser that removes built-in monetization features like Rewards and other add-ons tied to its business model.
The simplified browser is available as a separate browser download or as an upgrade to your existing Brave installation, unlocked through a one-time purchase, and can be activated on multiple devices.
The idea is simple, at least on paper: you pay once and get a cleaner, more minimal browsing experience without the add-ons that fund Brave’s ecosystem. What makes the move unusual is the pricing model. While paying to support a browser isn’t controversial, charging users specifically for removing features raises questions about whether these add-ons are considered value or clutter.
The situation gets even weirder on Linux, where Brave Origin is reportedly available at no cost, creating an uneven experience across platforms and leaving some users wondering why they are being asked to pay for something that others get for free.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
