Simplelocker Malware

The Electronic Crime Investigation Directorate informs citizens of the emergence of a new malware (TROJAN), called "Simplelocker," which attacks smartphones and tablets with ANDROID operating system and encrypts their user's files.

In particular, when the malware is installed on the device, it detects the existence of an external storage medium, such as an SD card s, scanning it for files of the type “.jpeg, .jpg, .png, .bmp, .gif, .pdf, .doc, .docx, .txt, .avi, .mkv, .3gp, .mp4”. After finding them, it then encrypts them according to the AES standard and changes their extension, making them inaccessible to the user.

Then a message appears on the device screen indicating that it is locked for viewing and trafficking of child pornography, zoophilia, etc., and requires users to pay a fee to unlock and decrypt their files.

It is noted that until today the aforementioned software has appeared in such as Russia and Ukraine.

People who have mobile phones and tablets with ANDROID operating system are urged to be very careful and take the following precautions to protect their device to prevent it from infecting the above virus. Simplelocker Specifically:

  • to check and keep up to date the version of the ANDROID operating system.
  • to create security of their device files (backup) at regular intervals.
  • to use security apps like an antivirus, which must always be up to date.
  • not download applications from unknown sources or unreliable applications
  • do not open attachments of emails for which they are not sure about the sender and the contents of the attached file.
