The CentOS distribution is the community proposal of an Enterprise distribution. CentOS 7, like every other version of the distribution, is completely based on the Red Hat Enterprise source code and is aimed at those who are interested in running a RedHat Enterprise-compatible distribution, but do not need the support offered by Red Hat.
The distribution is LTS, which is supported for many years, making it ideal for a server environment or for those who want a stable and reliable operating environment.
