Project CentOS developer and maintainer Johnny Hughes announced the availability of a new, major, core security update for the 7 series of CentOS operating systems.
The functional CentOS 7 is derived and freely distributed from the source code of the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating series, which means that it benefits from its security code.
According to the recent RHSA-2017: 0086-1 security advisory, which was marked as important, three vulnerabilities have been repaired.
Two of these security gaps characterized as moderate and one important. For anyone interested in learning more, the vulnerabilities are documented with codeς CVE-2016-7117, CVE-2016-6828 and CVE-2016-9555.
To mitigate the risks, it is recommended that you install the new package kernel-3.10.0-514.6.1.el7.x86_64 from the official repositories, as soon as possible.
A regular update of your system will take care of this, but do not forget to restart your machine to work with the new kernel.
Below is the terminal screen you will see after updating your system if you choose to do it from the command line.
