CERN, a long-time friend of Open Source, has made several contributions over the years to KiCad (“KEE-kad”), an open-source EDA (Electronic Design Automation) package widely used in the hobbyist and professional electronics communities.
It has become so widely used that users can now submit KiCad design files directly to various electronics manufacturers (instead of the traditional step of converting layouts to Gerber files).
Over the years, CERN has also developed its own symbol and footprint libraries to support its own internal electronic designs.
Last week, CERN released these KiCad component libraries, containing over 17.000 symbols, under the CERN Open Hardware License.

Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
