CES 2004: A Raspberry Pi 4 works underwater for 2 years

The company HZO demonstrating at CES 2204 its coatings for waterproofing products, had a Raspberry Pi 4 working underwater for about 2 years.

At one of HZO's booths was a Raspberry Pi 4 that worked perfectly while in an aquarium full of water. A timer reported during CES 2004 in Las Vegas in early January that the Raspberry Pi 4 had been submerged for 525 days.

The Raspberry Pi is connected to both the USB C power and the micro HDMI video output, which fed a dry screen.

How was this all happening? HZO is a company specializing in thin film and nano-coating solutions. To demonstrate the durability of their products, they wrapped a Raspberry Pi in one of them and submerged it in a tank full of water, where it worked for the duration of the exhibition.

HZO aims to protect electronic components from the limitations imposed by dust and moisture, making them accessible to people who live and work in harsher environments. It also works for the aerospace and defense and automotive industries.

Looking a little closer at the photo we find that the aquarium has deposits of salts and stench on its walls, which proves that the water was not deionized.

Also logically first the Raspberry Pi 4 was connected with the various cables and then waterproofed. Needless to say how proud Raspberry is who used her micro-computer
