ChatGPT-4o new advanced and free

During one streaming event by OpenAI, the company announced its next major model (LLM), which it calls ChatGPT-4o.gpt 4o

During the presentation, OpenAI's CTO Mira Murati said the company wanted to expand the reach of ChatGPT-4 LLM. The release of ChatGPT-4o will allow this to happen by making it available to everyone, even free users. This was confirmed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in a post on X (formerly Twitter):

During a live demo, the OpenAI team chatted with ChatGPT-4o using natural voice commands. The AI's voice could be changed with a few vocal suggestions from the humans on stage. It could for example become more dramatic or even turn into a completely robotic voice.

In another demonstration, ChatGPT-4o was shown a written math equation via a smartphone camera and the AI was able to describe the equation and more. Altman posted on X that ChatGPT-4o will begin shipping sometime in the next few weeks.

In a post on the OpenAI blog, there is more information about what the new model ChatGPT-4o brings:

It can respond to voice commands in just 232 milliseconds, with an average of 320 milliseconds, which is similar to a human's response time in a conversation. It matches the performance of GPT-4 Turbo on English text and code, with a significant improvement on non-English text, while also being much faster and 50% cheaper on the API. GPT-4o is much better at understanding what it "sees" and what it "hears" compared to existing models.

OpenAI also unveiled its GPT Store, now available to every ChatGPT user.
