Chrome uBlock how to enable (again) the extension

Recently, Google removed extensions that use Manifest V2 in Google Chrome, resulting in many extensions stopping working.

The change affects all extensions that have not been upgraded to Manifest V3, but the biggest problem is for users of uBlock Origin, a popular content blocking extension for modern browsers.

The good news is that despite the change, the extension can still work (uBlock Origin and other MV2 extensions on Chrome). Not only do they work, but they can also be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store. All you need is a few simple tweaks.

Open the internal address chrome://extensions and find uBlock Origin in the list of installed extensions.
There you will see a message stating that the extension has been disabled because it is not supported.
In the bottom right corner of the extension card, there is a small gray button. Click on it to enable uBlock Origin in Chrome.

Chrome will warn you not to enable the extension. Close the warning.

It's worth mentioning that you can do the same in Edge. Microsoft's browser still allows you to enable the extension,

Download and install uBlock Origin on Chrome:

This section is for those who do not have uBlock Origin installed. It also applies to other MV2-based extensions that Chrome does not allow installation.

Launch Chrome and click here to open the Chrome Web Store.
Find the “Add to Chrome” button—it should be grayed out. Right-click the button and select “Inspect.”
Chrome will open its developer tools in the “Elements” tab with the div class=”VfPpkd-dg12Hf-ppH1rf-sM5MNb” highlighted.

Click on a small arrow to its left to open the section.

At the end of the section find “disabled” and click on it.
Change “disabled” to “enabled” and Chrome will re-enable the “Add to Chrome” button.

Click the button to download and install uBlock Origin on Google Chrome.

Note that Chrome will disable uBlock Origin the next time you start the browser. If this happens, open the extensions and enable it again, as mentioned above.
