The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA from the Central Intelligence Agency) released a podcast called “The Langley Files”.
As the Secret Service explains, “the mission ofThe Langley Files: A CIA Podcast” is to educate and connect with the general public by sharing information about the core mission, capabilities and agility of the Intelligence Service as a leader in the field…and share some interesting stories along the way!”
The Variety he says:
The podcast features suspenseful intro music and a narrator who explains that the CIA will "share what it can" with stories that go beyond Hollywood scripts.
CIA director Bill Burns is the featured guest in episode 1 of “The Langley Files”. "We usually operate in the shadows, out of sight and out of mind," Burns said at the premiere. However, he continued, "in our democracy, where trust in institutions is so low ... it's important that we try to explain ourselves as best we can and debunk a little bit of what we're doing."
According to Burns, one of the biggest misconceptions people have about the CIA comes from Hollywood's depictions of intelligence agents. Many believe that the CIA is a "shiny world" of "heroic individuals who drive fast cars, defuse bombs and solve world crises on their own" - a la Jason Bourne, James Bond and Jack Ryan.
In the podcast, Burns stated that he was driving a 2013 Subaru Outback "going the posted speed limit."
The CIA says that each podcast episode will be approximately 15-30 minutes long and will "feature our hosts leading conversations with a series of special guests."
The series is distributed on major platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music and Player.fm.
"From all of us here at the CIA - we'll see you," said one of the hosts before closing the opening episode.
