Passing through airport security has never been fun especially if you are transferring your laptop. However, according to the following news, soon the controls will become less stressful.
At Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, one of the world's largest airports, they began testing new hand baggage scanners that do not require travelers to remove large electronic devices or liquids from their luggage. 
If you are traveling with a laptop you will know that you have to remove it from its case and place it in a separate basket. The same happens with the fragrances found in your luggage, or some other liquid.
The new technology currently being tested at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport can locate and control the above without pulling out of your bag.
The new ClearScan devices provide security personnel with opinions on the contents of each 360-degree piece of luggage, instead of the common X-ray top-down view. This allows security personnel to check luggage from all sides, and have a more accurate picture of the passenger's belongings.
Of course, you should always place the liquids in some airtight plastic packaging, but you should not remove them anymore from your luggage.
As you understand if the new ClearScan devices are eventually used at all airports in the world, they will offer security staff a better view of what passengers carry without wasting the time required to empty each bag.
