Clicking on Outlook links will automatically open Copilot

Microsoft is constantly inventing new ways to integrate Copilot into every one of its services. This time, it's adding a new Edge feature that will automatically open the Copilot sidebar whenever you click a link from Outlook.

The idea here is to allow users to “get more value from Copilot while also extending their productive browsing time in Edge.” You get an email with a link, click it, and instead of just loading the page, Edge will open Copilot alongside it. Copilot will then highlight key points and offer actionable suggestions, like writing a reply or simply summarizing what’s on that particular page.

The company announced this feature today on its new Microsoft 365 roadmap page . The rollout is scheduled to begin in May and is listed as “General Availability,” so it will roll out to most users (both consumers and businesses) without any special permission beyond that required to access Copilot.

New Copilot integrations are happening on a daily basis now. Microsoft clearly wants Copilot in front of as many users as possible. Whether they want it or not doesn't seem to matter.

Copilot was recently named the best productivity app by Microsoft, so the company cares little about what the end user wants. Whether the company's productivity metrics align with how users measure productivity is a different matter.
