Kris Marszalek, co-founder and CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com, paid 70 million dollars for the domain AI.com. It's the highest price ever publicly announced for a website name, according to deal broker Larry Fischer of GetYourDomain.com.
Initially, the former owner of the AI.com domain was asking for $100 million.
The entire amount was paid in cryptocurrency to an unknown seller.
Marszalek plans to introduce the site during a Super Bowl commercial this weekend, offering a personal “AI agent” that will allow consumers to send messages, use apps and trade stocks.
The previous domain sale record was nearly $50 million for Carinsurance.com, according to GoDaddy.
