Websites of the German government, including Merkel's Chancellor's page, were "chaffed" on Wednesday in a cyber-attack for which an organization was responsible for requiring the breakup of official Berlin relations with the Ukrainian government.
The attack - against which countermeasures were taken, as reported by Reuters- made the sites practically inaccessible from 11 am (Greece time), as it became known.
The responsibility was assumed by team CyberBerkut by posting on its website. "Berkut" refers to the riot police units of the country's pro-Russian former president, Viktor Yanukovych, who fell during duration violent uprisings in early 2014.
"CyberVerkut blocked the websites of the German chancellor and the Bundestag. We urge the people and government of Germany to stop economic and political support to the criminal regime of Kiev, which started a bloody civil war" it says. However, it has not yet been confirmed by independent experts whether CyberVerkut is indeed responsible for the attack.
