Daisy the AI grandma who keeps the phone scammers busy

Phone salesmen and scammers should be worried as “Daisy”, an AI granny, is here to make life difficult for them. Scammers have evolved, and some now even use artificial intelligence to trick their victims by impersonating others.

So since fraudsters are using artificial intelligence to lure victims into traps, a UK network provider thought of creating an AI-based defense mechanism.

The “Daisy” bot was developed by Virgin Media O2, and is a tool that uses artificial intelligence with the voice of a grandmother. Its purpose is to engage scammers in conversations, wasting their time as much as possible.

The company says:

O2 today unveiled the newest member of its fraud prevention team, 'Daisy'. As “Head of Scammer Relations”, AI Granny's mission is to chat with scammers to get them to waste as much of their time as possible with humanoid conversations, which keeps them away from real people.

The company stresses the need for consumers to remain vigilant as the UK faces a fraud epidemic.

Daisy can keep talking to the rogue for up to 40 minutes at a time. She keeps the scammers engaged by talking about her passion for knitting and providing the scammers with fake details such as fabricated bank details, addresses etc.

The AI tool was developed using a personalized model with the help of one of YouTube's best scammers, Jim Browning. Daisy has been trained to answer any questions from the cheaters without needing any input from her creators.

Murray Mackenzie, of Virgin Media O2, said:

"We're committed to playing our part to stop fraudsters, investing in everything from firewall technology, blocking scam texts to AI-powered spam call detection, to keep our customers safe."
