If you're looking for a free alternative to Lightroom for image management and editing, there's some good news: the free and open source darktable software has reached version 5.6.1 and is finally available for Windows users.
Originally released in 2009, darktable has been used by professional photographers on both Mac and Linux operating systems. The software includes a set of photo editing features that help you edit RAW files, especially large ones.
After some timid attempts since version 3.2.0, darktable has now been officially ported to Windows (64-bit only).
Version 5.6.1 brings a number of new changes, features, bug fixes, and camera support. You can find the full list of changes and improvements in the company's announcement.
You can download darktable 5.6.1 from here , where you will also find the new 116MB download titled “darktable-5.6.1-win64.exe” for Windows.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
