New world record for data transmission achieved by Danes researchers of DTU (Tech University Denmark), namely the HSOC (High-Speed Optical Communications) group at DTU Fotonik.

Researchers achieved the new record using a new kind of fiber that was "borrowed" by the Japanese telecommunications giant NNT. This type of fiber contains seven cores instead of the one used in conventional fibers, which makes it possible to transfer more data. Although it contains seven cores, the dimensions are the same as those of conventional versions.
The HSOC team at DTU Fotonik has held this record in the past. In 2009 he had break the "terabit barrier", achieving the transmission of more than one terabit / second, again through the use of a single laser.
