The Debian Project today announced the release of Debian 12.4 the fourth (third normally) ISO update of the latest Debian GNU/Linux 12 “Bookworm” series of operating systems, replacing Debian 12.3 which was halted due to an issue with the EXT4 file system leading to data corruption.
Debian 12.3 was supposed to be released over the weekend. Instead, the Debian Project published a brief announcement informing users of a problem in the EXT4 file system that was causing data corruption in Linux kernel 6.1.64-1. So the planned Debian 12.3 release was never released.
However, the problem has now been fixed and Debian 12.3 has been upgraded to Debian 12.4, which comes with Linux kernel 6.1.66-1.
Debian 12.4 is here two months after the release of Debian 12.2 and provides those looking to install Debian Bookworm on new hardware with updated installation media. So you don't need to download hundreds of packages from repositories after installation.
