The Debian Project was released today the first alpha version of the installer for the upcoming Debian series of operating systems GNU / Linux 13 “Trixie”, which is expected to be released this year.
Although the development of the Debian Trixie series started a few months ago, there was no official installation available until now. The first alpha version of the Debian 13 Installer is here for first timers users and Linux/Debian friends who want to get an idea of the new features and improvements.
The new Debian 13 “Trixie” installer supports the latest Linux 6.12 LTS kernel series, which could also be the default kernel it will use in the final release. It also brings various hardware improvements, starting with support for the RISCV64 architecture, a 64-bit variant of RISC-V.
Debian Trixie Installer Alpha also removes support for the ARmel and i386 architectures, even though they remain in the archive until now, while the MIPSel architecture was removed from the archive last year.
Among other notable changes, the Debian Trixie Installer Alpha comes with a revamped UI for creating the root and first user, improvements to automatic partitioning, such as for calculating swap size, along with some new features targeting small disks.
The boot screens have not been updated in this first alpha version of the Debian Trixie Installer, the new default has been released theme Ceratopsian created by Elise Couper.
