Debian 9 Stretch final: Debian is the result of Debian Project. It is a popular Linux distribution, with free software developed through the collaboration of volunteers from around the world. It is based on the linux kernel and GNU core tools.
Debian is known for its many choices and capabilities:
The latest stable version features more than 29.000 software packages for twelve computer architectures ranging from ARM, usually incorporating IBM s390 embedded systems and architecture, to the most common x86 and PowerPC architectures on modern PCs.
Debian is also known for its APL (Advanced Packaging Tool, or its advanced software tool pack), specifically for the rigorous policies it adopts with regard to the quality of its packages and releases and the open process of development and control it adopts.
Debian is backed by donations made through organizations that promote free software and NOT supported by a company, but by Debian Project itself and the Software in the Public Interest.
Debian has 3 different versions:
Stable (Stable) as the latest official release. Issue programs are rarely renewed (except for emergency fixes). After Debian 6.0, new releases are released every two years. When a new version is released, the previous stable version becomes oldstable. The oldstable version is supported up to 1 time after the release of the new stable release.
The Testing version includes all packages (programs) that are not yet sufficiently stable and still need control. This version is not intended for use on servers or any computer that provides critical services. However, many users use it because the programs it contains are the latest.
Unstable or sid (still in development) includes the packages that are under development. This version should be considered very unstable and used by experienced users. If a package remains in this release for quite some time, it is automatically added to the test version.
There is finally one more version that bears the name experimental (experimental) which is used only to prepare the packages that will be added to the unstable.
Today, after years of testing, the Debian project team has announced its release Debian 9, with code name “Stretch".
Its well-tried nature Debian 9 provides support for distribution support for too many processor architectures (i386, amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, mips, mipsel, mips64el, ppc64el, s390x)
Distribution is desirable for desktops (with GNOME 3.22 as default, but also with KDE Plasma 5.8, LXDE, LXQt 0.11, MATE 1.16 and Xfce 4.12 as desktop environments available) to servers.
Debian 9 comes with over 51.000 binary packages, a new record for a stable Debian release.
"After 26 months of development, the Debian project introduces the new stable version of 9 (code name Stretch), which will be supported for the next 5 years thanks to the combined work of the Debian Security team and the Debian team's long-term support."

Debian 9 is available in a variety of variations, including full DVD and live images with popular desktop environments.
