Debian Edu 9 Stretch or Skolelinux

The distribution of Debian Edu GNU / Linux (also known as Skolelinux) was updated today in the 9 version based on Debian GNU / Linux 9 "Stretch".

Debian Edu 9 "Stretch" provides a stable and reliable environment for a fully-fledged school network. It is designed and developed to function as a school server where users and machines can be added using the GOsa web interface.Debian Edu

This allows users to have an environment of their choice installed, and have access to more than 60 educational applications.

“The Debian Edu school server provides an LDAP database and Kerberos authentication service, central home directories, a DHCP server, a proxy server in and many other services.
The desktop includes more than 60 educational software packages and more can be found in the Debian archive. It has options for different desktop environments such as: KDE , GNOME, LXDE, MATE and Xfce," the release notes state.

What's new in Debian Edu 9 Stretch

The Debian Edu 9 Stretch has the same features as Debian GNU/Linux 9 Stretch, but also has some extras that are worth noting: Plymouth as default slash screen, Icinga as a new monitoring tool instead of Nagios, NDB support for the root file system for LTSP instead of NFS.

Note that the fromPlymouth boot is not available for Minimal and Main Server profiles.

Debian Skolelinux has always provided a complete GNU / Linux solution for schools and the Debian Edu 9 Stretch version responds to its name since it is designed to be used on universities, schools, and so on.
