DEFT Zero: After more than two years of development, the Linux DEFT Ubuntu-based distribution, featuring specialized tools for forensic analysis, released the first final release.
DEFT (Digital Evidence & Forensic Toolkit) is a custom Ubuntu Linux distribution that offers an easy-to-use system that includes excellent hardware detection and support, and some of the best open source applications for digital incident and forensic analysis.
The new version is called DEFT Zero and comes in the 2017.1 version. It is much more compact and light, but it brings some useful new features.
“The DEFT Zero 2.017.1 version ready for download. Finally I can announce that a fixed version of DEFT Zeros is available. The DEFT Zero is a light version specifically designed to perform digital evidence collection. Among the most important features are support for NVMExpress memory (MacBook 2015), eMMC and UEFI.
The new DEFT Zero version requires significantly less RAM and a CD-ROM or USB drive. It takes about 400 MB, with which it can even run in RAM on low hardware computers. Distribution is based on Lubuntu 14.04.02 LTS. ”
