Recently, there has been an increase in complaints to the Union of Consumer Workers of Greece from consumers who either do not receive at all or receive their monthly electricity consumption bill from the Public Power Corporation (PPC) late through ELTA.
The result of this delay, for which consumers are not responsible, is that overdue debts to PPC appear, debts that consumers are unaware of! Anyone who contacts PPC to complain is recommended to register on the electronic platform for monitoring debts!
However, the fact that there are categories of consumers for whom electronic checking of accounts is not only difficult but also impossible is overlooked. How can someone oblige a consumer who has no contact with a computer to be trained digitally in order to pay his bill? How can vulnerable categories of consumers, such as the elderly, the sick, etc., be obliged to be informed electronically about their debts, when this obligation is borne by the provider itself, who invoices the customer, informing him of the amount of the debt through the bill sent to the consumer's address? On the other hand, how is the tenant of a space protected when the electricity supply belongs to the owner or even to a third party (often not present in life!) and how does he finally receive knowledge, in due time, of his debt?
We call on PPC not to impose late payment interest on overdue payments of electricity bills, when the bill form has not been sent to the consumer on time. At the same time, it must immediately resolve the issue that has arisen with the sending of bills (in the cases of consumers who have not registered on its digital platform), so that they are not burdened with an additional burden (of late payment interest) for which they have no responsibility!

Should ELTA operate better instead of being devalued? Should they open stores instead of closing? Should they hire staff instead of laying them off? In all this story, and in other similar ones, the responsibility lies with ELTA (and the government that is selling them off), not with the provider, nor with the consumer.
