PPC plans to expand its FTTH provision, which it currently only has for wholesale customers, and to bring optical fiber to the retail market and to our homes with its own network.
PPC, through its subsidiary FiberGrip, plans to launch fiber optic connections as a consumer product. It is expected to have the first connections at very competitive prices by the end of the year, since it will have to move aggressively to gain market shares.
More specifically, next Thursday it is submitted for approval by the general meeting of the company's shareholders, the secession plan of the Telecommunications Branch and its contribution to the 100% subsidiary, which will bear the distinctive title FiberGrid.
H PPC FiberGrid is the new ambitious plan of PPC Group for the creation of a new provider, which will have high-quality and high-speed Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) services. After the transfer of all responsibilities to the FiberGrid subsidiary, the company will own PPC's "old" urban fiber optic network, which has been built since 2003, and the under-development "new" fiber optic network and related assets assets (equipment, machinery, etc.).
At the same time, there will be an increase in the share capital of FiberGrid by 33 million euros and it will reach a total of 63 million euros, so that it will also come to the market with a retail product for optical fiber, at speeds up to 2,5 Gbps and in the areas where it is located and developed the FiberGrid network.
The goal is for FiberGrid's network to reach 500.000 households and businesses by the end of 2024 and 1,7 million in 2025. Optical fiber has already passed to many municipalities in Athens and Thessaloniki, and is expected to be extended to Patras, Heraklion, Volos , Kalamata, Larissa, Ioannina, Corinth, Trikala, Kozani, Veria and Megalopolis.
The areas have been selected based on, among other things, population coverage and lack of FTTH infrastructure. Overall, PPC Group's goal is to provide fiber-to-the-home coverage to 3 million households and businesses across the country within the next five years.
It is noted that PPC has already sent an invitation to OTE, NOVA, Vodafone and Inalan, in order to pilot test the optical fiber network manufactured by FiberGrid.
