Be the first to see the Twitter that Instagram is preparing

We finally have an idea of what Instagram's brewing Twitter competitor might look like, as Lia Haberman reports, which shared what appears to be a slide detailing the upcoming app.

Transparency does not give to some separate name — instead, he's calling it "Instagram's new text app for chat" — but it's codenamed P92 according to Haberman. Users will be able to log in with their username and of their Instagram access and your followers, name, and bio will be carried over from the main app.

In the app, you'll see a feed and be able to make text posts of up to 500 characters with attached links, photos and videos.

The app is very similar if you think of Instagram and Twitter together, with two screenshots included in the leaked slide.

More importantly, though, Instagram's new text app will be compatible with some others such as Mastodon, the Instagram slide states.

"Users in these other apps will be able to search, follow and interact with your profile and content if it's public or if it's private you'll need to approve."

If the app is widely released, it could make Instagram an even more popular app than it already is.

Meta hasn't said anything about the upcoming changes, but in March, it said:

“We are exploring an autonomous decentralized social network for publishing text updates. We believe there is an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.”
