The source code of Grand Theft Auto 5 was reportedly leaked on Christmas Eve, a year after the Lapsus$ team hacked Rockstar games, and stole corporate data.
Links to download the source code were shared on several channels, including Discord, a dark web site, and a Telegram channel previously used by hackers to announce the Rockstar hack.
In a post on a Grand Theft Auto leak channel on Telegram, the channel owner known as “Phil” posted links to the stolen source code, sharing a screenshot of one of the folders.
The channel owner also paid tribute to Lapsus$ hacker Arion Kurtaj, who leaked videos before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 under the name 'teapotuberhacker'.
Ο Kurtaj was recently convicted by a British court for hacking Rockstar and Uber.
Rockstar Games was hacked in 2022 by members of the Lapsus$ team, who gained access to the company's internal Slack server and Confluence wiki.
At the time, the hackers claimed to have stolen the source code of GTA 5 and GTA 6, including a trial version of GTA 6. The hacker shared samples of the GTA 5 source code as proof that he had stolen the data.
The vx-underground research team he says that he spoke to the leaker on Discord, who said he had the source code much earlier.
