With a clear goal to get an emphatic presence on YouTube, Disney bought the popular YouTube network Maker Studios, for $ 500 million.
This move seems to provide the world's top entertainment company with a great asset as it will give it a chance to expand into the ever-growing short video market. Indeed, if Maker Studios meets specific targets set, Disney will contribute an extra $ 450 million.
Maker Studios has established itself as the leading online video network, with over 55.000 channela, 380 million subscribers and 5,5 billion monthly views. Η base will remain based in Culver City, Calif., and report to Disney's chief financial officer, Jay Rasulo, according to the official announcement.
Disney hopes that this acquisition will provide Maker Studios with the additional necessary know-how and business skills in the explosive short-form video development, including Disney's own content.
