Free Windows means ads you like it you don't

Microsoft testing new ads or “suggestions” for Copilot Pro in Windows 11 settings with KB5034220. In the preview versions of the Beta channel, Microsoft quietly activated a new card promoting Copilot Pro, with a $20 subscription that gives you access to ChatGPT-4 Turbo and other features.

The Windows Settings app is divided into categories such as System, Bluetooth and devices, Network and internet, Personalization and others. There's also a section called Home, which is a dashboard that shows your overall Windows configuration, such as your preferred theme and connected devices.

Microsoft also uses this Settings page to promote its services like 365. Over the weekend, Microsoft began showing suggestions for “Microsoft Copilot Pro” in the Settings app.

The ad states that if you get Copilot Pro, you can use newer versions of GPT, such as ChatGPT-4 Turbo, and create AI images much faster. There are two buttons: one to get Copilot Pro and another to find out what's included. You like it you don't like the ad, it can't be removed.

On the same page, there's also a section to try Microsoft 365 for free, which includes apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. At the bottom of the screen, there are options to get help or comment on Windows.

Microsoft doesn't refer to these suggestions as ads but as a “Cards” feature, so you can't ignore or remove them. Of course, this is not the only place where you will find recommendations for Copilot Pro.

If you go to the Accounts page of Settings, where you can manage your Microsoft account, you'll notice another “suggestion” for Copilot Pro.

Starting with KB5034220, the subscription card for Copilot Pro is added to two pages of Windows Settings. These ads or "cards" or "suggestions" will probably come to the "fixed" versions in the coming days.
