H Address : Prosecution of Electronic Crime informs citizens of possible fraud through email account violations ( e-mails ) to capture (phishing) their personal data and contact list.
The perpetrators initially violate e-mail accounts by e-phishing ( Phishing ), obtaining access in their contact list
They then send mass emails to the account holders of the contact list, impersonating victims and asking for money under various pretexts, thereby deceiving them and acquisition illegal financial gain
From the Greek Police's Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate, it is announced that a lot of e-mails have been detected lately, with phishing techniques.
Initially, the perpetrators ask owners of e-mail accounts (e-mails) on the internet to verify their account details on a proposed link. In this way they hack the accounts and phish-gain access to their saved personal data but also their contact list.
Subsequently, the perpetrators through the blamed accounts send bulk emails to the contact list and represent people-victims who ask for money with various pretexts (B.C. "I'm abroad, I've lost my wallet and I need some money to come back," "stole my purse and cell phone and I have no money," "I'm away from home and I need urgent money" and so on.). In this way, they are designed to deceive users-recipients and obtain undue financial gain.
On the basis of these incidents, the Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office urges citizens to be particularly careful and to take increased protection and digital security measures for e-mail accounts kept on the Internet.
In particular it is recommended:
-
Avoid storing sensitive personal and financial data in your email accounts, especially to avoid storing data that contains account numbers such as photocopies, passwords, etc.
-
Type URLs in the browser instead of using hyperlinks when checking e-mail resources.
-
Beware of a form of phishing-like fraud called "pharming" that makes users redirect from legitimate Web sites to imitations to theft of personal data.
-
Do not send by e-mail the username and password of any digital service they use.
-
To define alerts (alerts) for every attempt to change or reset the password. These should come to another e-mail or by SMS to the mobile phone.
