Computer Certificates (ECDL) is backed by the Ministry of Administrative Reform and, with an amendment tabled in the draft law on the establishment of the Dementia Observatory, requests that every 3 year be renewed in order to be considered valid in the ASEP competitions.
This means that if someone wants to participate in an ASEP competition and has obtained the ECDL 3 years ago, they will have to pay again to take the exam again to get the fresh one certificate.
In a joint statement, the President of the Federation of Private Educational Officers, Michalis Kouroutos and the President of ADEDY, Odysseas Drivallas, characterize the scandalous gift of pre-election affiliation to entrepreneurs who are active in the field of certification. They also sign a letter to Kyriakos Mitsotakis, calling on him to withdraw the regulation
The press release of the OIEU and ADEDY Presidents
"This arrangement is an unprecedented gift, obviously of a pre-election nature, to a few dozen businessmen who control the space and it is predicted that they will gain millions of euros from this arrangement at the expense of thousands of workers and unemployed people whose need for work becomes the object of brutal exploitation. We must note here that the concept of re-certification of the same qualification is not understood anywhere in the EU (this regulation, if applied in the field of Foreign Languages, would require the holders of e.g. Proficiency to take exams every three years for a fee to renew their title!). The most infuriating thing in this case is that a few months ago and after complaints from the social partners, the current Minister of Education, Mr. Loverdos, had withdrawn a scandalous KYA with the same content, even stating publicly that he would send the authors of the KYA to justice. We will await with interest the initiatives that Mr. Loverdos will undertake, so that this particular regulation-sucker is withdrawn. We wonder, however, whether the filing of the specific legislation for a vote in the Parliament was known to the Minister of Education".
The reason report of the Ministry of Administrative Reform for the amendment
At explanatory statement that accompanies the amendment, the rapporteurs argue that: "This regulation is deemed necessary in order to ensure that the computer knowledge of newly hired public servants meets not only the ever-changing technological developments but also the evolving requirements of public bodies. […] The necessity of its immediate vote layoutof this is related to its immediacy need for updating the essential qualifications in the appointments made in the public sector".
