Όπως γνωρίζετε τα Windows 11 (και τα Windows 10) μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν χωρίς ενεργοποίηση, εφόσον δεν σας πειράζει. Ωστόσο η Microsoft συνεχίζει να μας ενημερώνει για το ότι τα Windows δεν είναι ενεργοποιημένα, μέσω της applications Settings, in desktop and elsewhere.
Now to a recent one version of Microsoft Edge, Microsoft began testing several different flags that allow the company to block features of the browser when Windows 11 is not activated.
The following files determine whether Windows is activated:
msEdgeActivatedStateCheckAndUpdate
msEdgeNonActivatedOSTrigger
msEdgeLockSettingsInNonActivatedOS
Windows recently attempted to run Edge Canary with these features enabled separately. “msEdgeLockSettingsInNonActivatedOS” actually works, and it locks some settings in the Edge browser.
The Settings page in Edge displays a banner at the top that says "We notice your Windows is not activated."
Edge also blocked access to the “When Edge starts” settings in a Windows 11 virtual machine because they were not enabled. This page (When Edge starts) allows you to configure the browser when you open the Edge browser.
The Windows Latest that performed the tests he published the following images (click to enlarge):
Does the block in Edge settings make sense?
Locking users out of Edge browser settings because they are using an unactivated version of Windows makes no sense. The same browser (Edge) is available for Mac and mobile devices, but the activation popup only appears for Windows users?
There is absolutely no benefit to these restrictions other than incentivizing users to switch to Chrome or Firefox.
Browsers shouldn't force us to buy one license of Windows and we sincerely hope the upcoming feature Microsoft is testing never gets approved.
