Microsoft's Edge browser has brought a feature to the Canary channel that notifies you when an extension slows down your computer.
If you use Edge you will be able to quickly and easily see which extensions are negatively affecting your browser. And since everyone uses extensions in their browsers as they configure them at will, such a feature is quite useful.
Browser extensions are not always coded correctly. There are times when they can overload the browser resulting in it slowing down.
That's why Microsoft is currently testing an upcoming feature in the Edge browser that it calls “Extension performance detector” and detects when an extension is affecting performance and warns you about it.
The “extension performance detector” will appear on your screen detailing which installed extensions are using the most resources, making it easy to figure out which ones you should disable.
The feature is available to users running the latest version 131.0.2856.0. If you are using this version, you can activate and test it immediately with the following steps:
Step 1 : Type edge://flags in the address bar and press Enter.
Step 2 : On the resulting page, type extension performance detector in the search field at the top.
Locate the flag in the search results, click the drop-down menu, and change it to Enabled.
Step 3 : Restart Edge.
The extension performance detector will only flag an extension as problematic if it hoards an unusual amount of resources and/or repeatedly causes performance slowdowns. If it doesn't flag anything, you can be sure your extensions are fine.
