What remains to be seen is:
1) How will they implement the new law (per nation? per member state? per city?)
2) What data will be used (Information from local government? or from a satellite;);
3) How will the data be normalized (GDP? Per capita?)?
4) How will the carbon dioxide emission per good be calculated (Total emissions? Worst kind? Certain parts?)
This will undoubtedly cause a lot of backlash. But it seems that the world will finally get more serious about stopping greenhouse gas emissions.
"The measure will first apply to iron and steel, cement, aluminium, fertilisers, power generation and hydrogen before being extended to other goods," he says CNN.
"Under the new mechanism, companies will have to buy certificates to cover the carbon dioxide emissions produced by the production of goods imported into the European Union based on calculations linked to the EU's own carbon price."
