Elementary OS is a Ubuntu-based linux distribution. Some of the features that make distribution unique are a custom desktop environment called Pantheon and a custom one for mobile devices to report the center.
The latest version of the project is elementary OS 5.1 “Hera”, which comes with updated packages, a new screen login and an onboarding app to guide new users through the available features.
“The newly redesigned login and lockscreen greeter looks and works better, but also fixes many issues reported with the previous greeter, such as focus issues, HiDPI and localization issues. The new design of the Hera version meets the comments of Juno version users and adds some new features. It will always show usernames for all users, it shows user backgrounds as cards so you can find them easier especially those who don't have avatar, notifies when Caps or Num Lock is on and has a very distinct 'Log In as Guest' screen when enabled.
The new Onboarding app that comes with the Hera release introduces the basic features to users and helps them perform some common tasks after first logging into the OS, such as management privacy settings.”
