BroadbandChoices in its latest report on “Accessibility to Internet” once again ranked Greece and Cyprus in the last two positions of the entire European Union.
Greece and Cyprus in both 2021 and 2022 "hit rock bottom" in countries the EU, and in fact it is lower even than countries that are in the process of joining, such as Montenegro, Serbia, but even those whose accession is being discussed, such as North Macedonia, Albania, Ukraine, and Moldova. Only Bosnia-Herzegovina and Georgia, which are also discussing their accession to the EU, are a little lower. I wish they would come in so we don't feel alone.
For 2022, Greece is in 86th place and Cyprus in 90th place. Something better though, from 2021 which was in 98th and 99th place respectively. According to the report, the average download speed in Greece is 15,6 Mbit / s while Denmark has 69,4 Mbps and the best price belongs to Liechtenstein with 75,7 Mbps.
Of course, in order for the above to be properly compared, you must equate the population and the square kilometers of each country. Denmark by 2020 had a population of about 5,8 million and an area of 43.000 Km2 and Greece 11 million with 132.000 Km2. Proportionally, Denmark is more densely populated.
The situation is not ideal for those in Greece and Cyprus, but it could be much worse. Several countries, such as Iraq, Somalia, Yemen and Lebanon, recorded average download speeds of less than 1 Mbps.
