Greece: Escalation of Cyberattacks with a 48% Increase

Check Point Research, the Threat Intelligence division of Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. , a cybersecurity company, today released its Global Threat Intelligence Insights for November 2025. The data reveals that organizations worldwide faced an average of 2.003 cyberattacks per week , a 3% increase from October and a 4% increase year-over-year. The findings reflect the continued escalation of global cyberthreats, driven by the spread of ransomware and emerging risks associated with Generative AI ( GenAI ).

The Adoption of GenAI Creates New Data Leakage Risks – Education Remains the No. 1 Goal

With the rapid adoption of Generative AI ( GenAI ) tools by enterprises, Check Point Research is recording a significant increase in sensitive data exposure. In November:

  • 1 on 35 GenAI prompts (prompts) submitted by corporate networks was considered high risk of data leakage,
    influencing the
87% of organizations that they use GenAI systematically — a fact that shows how deeply embedded the AI in daily workflows.
  • Furthermore 22% of prompts contained potentially sensitive information is covered, such as:
    • internal communications,
    • customer data,
    • proprietary source code,
    • personally identifiable information (PII).

While some usage is through managed tools, organizations use an average of 11 different GenAI tools per month , most of which operate without formal oversight or security structures.

This uncontrolled use:

  • increases the risk accidental data leakage,
  • expands the possibilities malicious infiltration,
  • enhances exposure to ransomware,
  • and fuels a new wave AI powered cyber attacks.

The Education Sector Remains the Most Targeted Globally

Education remains the sector with the highest level of targeted attacks internationally, recording on average:

  • 4.656 weekly attacks per organization
    (
    +7% on an annual basis).

Following are:

  • Government organizations → 2.716 weekly attacks (+ 2 % YoY)
  • Associations & Non-Profit Organizations → 2.550 weekly attacks,
    noting
an impressive 57% increase compared to the previous year.

Latin America Records the Highest Volumes of Attacks

Regionally, Latin America reported the highest volumes of cyberattacks, with an average of 3.048 attacks per organization per week , a 17% increase year-on-year.

The Asia-Pacific ( APAC ) region held steady in terms of attack volume (–0,1% YoY ), Africa recorded a decrease (–13% YoY ), while Europe saw a slight decline of 1%. In contrast, North America saw a 9% year-on-year increase , partly due to strong ransomware activity.

The Threat Landscape Ransomware: 22% increase year-on-year

The ransomware remains one of the most devastating forms of cyberthreats. In November, 727 publicly reported incidents worldwide, noting increase 22% compared to the previous year.

The distribution of incidents is as follows:

  • North America: 55% of global cases
  • Europe: 18 %
  • USA: 52% of the total, followed by:
    • United Kingdom: 4%
    • Canada: 3%

Industries with the greatest impact

The most affected industries were:

  • Industrial Processing: 12 %
  • Business Services: 11 %
  • Consumer Goods & Services: 10 %

Dominant ransomware groups in November

The groups with the highest activity were:

  • Qilin: 15 %
  • Clop: 15 %
  • Akira: 12 %

Collectively, they are responsible for a significant percentage of the incidents made public during the month.

Greece: Significant Escalation of Cyberattacks with a 48% Increase – Highly Targeted Sectors

Greece recorded one of the largest increases in cyberattacks in the EMEA region in November 2025, with businesses facing an average of 1.675 attacks per week , an impressive 48% increase year-on-year . This increase indicates a significant intensification of cybercriminal activity, which is increasingly targeting Greek organizations using sophisticated attack techniques. The sectors with the greatest targeting were Central Government , Consumer Goods & Services , Financial Services , Automotive and Business Services . These sectors have high exposure due to the daily management of sensitive data, financial transactions and critical infrastructure, making them particularly attractive to organized cyber operations. This sharp rise demonstrates the need to strengthen threat prevention and detection mechanisms, as well as the adoption of advanced security tools and systematic staff training to reduce overall risks.

Statement by Omer Dembinsky, Data Research Manager at Check Point Research

“November data shows that, alongside the continued increase in the overall number of attacks, we are also seeing a worrying rise in the sophistication of these operations.
The combination of the increase in
ransomware and the data report related to the GenAI It gives attackers more tools and opportunities to execute destructive campaigns.
The only truly effective approach is
prevention first, with utilization part team AI and preventive threat intelligence"so that attacks can be blocked before they cause damage."
