Elon Musk filed an application in Nevada last month for the creation a new one companyunder the name "X.AI Corp." which will deal with artificial intelligence.
As first reported from The Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk created a new company dedicated to artificial intelligence called X.AI. The company, founded last month, currently has Musk as director and Jared Birchall as secretary.
Rumors of Musk starting an AI company have been circulating for days, with a report from Business Insider to reveal that Musk had purchased thousands of graphics processing units (GPUs) to power an upcoming artificial intelligence product.
The Financial Times reported likewise that Musk planned to create an artificial intelligence company to compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI. Musk reportedly sought funding from SpaceX and Tesla investors to get the company off the ground.
During an interview on Twitter Spaces, when Musk was asked about all those GPUs he bought, the billionaire made no mention of his plans to start an AI company, stating that "everyone buys GPUs these days."
The assumed name X.AI matches the brand name X Corp. which has also been assigned to Twitter. With the label “X” it has connected his vision of an "app that will have everything".
Musk was open opposed to OpenAI , the AI organization he co-founded in 2015 but left in 2018, and recently signed a letter calling for an end to "giant AI experiments."
In recent months, OpenAI has become a highly recognizable name in technology such as ChatGPT and GPT-4, and is partly responsible for launching Microsoft's current push and Google to more deeply integrate AI tools into many of its products.
