If at some point during your browsing on thenetwork you met the address https://encrypted.google.com/ you may have wondered if there is a difference from the normal address https://google.com/.
As seen at first glance, there are no differences as both addresses use secure HTTPS connections.
Αν προσέξετε όμως καλύτερα η σελίδα του encrypted.google.com δεν έχει το Doodle και το εικονίδιο των εφαρμογών της Google.
But there are some differences that are not visible. According to Google, the difference is in handling referral information when you click on an ad. Let's see what this means:
Before explaining what each link does let's try to explain what the term means information referral and what they might be:
An "http referer" or simply "referer" is the point from which the visits to a website start. Examples: search engines, other websites, links, advertisements, banners, emails, links that exist embedded in software.
And every time someone visits a site, one of the information recorded by that site is where the visitor came from. This is usually recorded in the form of a URL and stored in the "referer log."
Όμως οι πληροφορίες που ταξιδεύουν στο Internet μαζί με την προηγούμενη διεύθυνση είναι πολλές. Σε αυτές συμπεριλαμβάνονται: το είδος του λειτουργικού σας συστήματος, ο browser, η κωδικοποίηση γραμματοσειράς που χρησιμοποιείτε, και διάφορες άλλες πληροφορίες από τα cookies stored on your system.
1. Clicking on an ad:
At https: //google.com: Google will take you to an HTTP redirect page where it will attach the search query to the referral information.
At https: //encrypted.google.com: If the advertiser uses an HTTP connection, Google will not let him know your question. If the advertiser uses HTTPS, it will receive referral information normally (including search query).
2. Clicking on a normal search result:
At https: //google.com: If the website uses HTTP, Google will take you to an HTTP redirect page and will not attach the search query to the referral information. They will only give the name of the website you come from Google. If it uses HTTPS, it will receive the referral information normally.
At https://encrypted.google.com: If the page you clicked on search results uses HTTP, it does not get any information from where you are coming from or from what query you normally have.
If you are concerned about the protection of your personal data there are several solutions to use. VPN, proxy, yesterday we announced it developer version of Opera which offers free VPN, or the known one HTTPS Everywhere.
If you know or notice any other difference between the two URLs, you can report it in the comments.
