Almost all modern computers have a web cameras with special LED indicators that let you know the camera is working and watching you. Below we will see how to enable camera privacy alerts in Windows 11.
To improve the security of devices without indicators, Microsoft created a system notification that shows whether the camera is on or off. But this particular camera privacy feature should be enabled manually through the Windows 11 Registry Editor.
Let's see how it works:
Search for “Registry Editor” and open it application.
Alternatively, press the Windows key + R together to open Run. Then type “regedit” and press Enter
In regedit, follow the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE - Microsoft - OEM - Device - Capture
If you can't find the Capture key, you'll need to create it by right-clicking on the Device key and selecting New – Key. Name the new key “Capture”.
Inside Capture, find the NoPhysicalCameraLED value on the right side. If you can't find it, right-click on the empty area and select New – DWORD (32-bit Value).
Name it “NoPhysicalCameraLED”.
Finally, open the NoPhysicalCameraLED value by double-clicking on it and set the value to 1.
If the value is 0, it means that the privacy indicator of the camera is disabled.
Click OK to confirm, and restart your computer.
After its completion procedures, a “Camera” indicator will appear every time the camera is turned on or off to let you know the current status. THE change of the value in regedit does not affect the LED indication.
