Eni HPC5 the most powerful computer system in the world

Eni HPC5: Dell Technologies is at the heart of the world's most powerful industrial supercomputer, the HPC5, recently launched in Eni Green Data Center.

The drive to create an environmentally safe and sustainable system for the future brought Dell Technologies into partnership with Eni.

The supercomputing infrastructure powered by 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors achieves unprecedented levels of computing power for the industrial, oil and gas industries and can deliver 52 billion calculations per second (52 PetaFLOPS).

HPC5 allows the use of generated during production and will further accelerate Research and Development (R&D) projects for the transition to non-fossil energy sources. It will also support the exploration, development and monitoring of oil fields.

In line with the commitment to sustainability from Dell Technologies and Eni, the HPC5 is designed to run at the highest possible energy efficiency, using solar energy generated at the Green Data Center to reduce emissions.

The HPC5 system uses an advanced parallel architecture and supports a hybrid programming model, which allows Eni to process seismic imaging faster and use much more sophisticated algorithms. Utilizing the NVIDIA GPU computing platform, ENI is able to accelerate seismic monitoring applications, as well as develop new AI-based approaches to energy discovery and processing.

Τα κύρια στοιχεία του συστήματος είναι 1.820 servers Dell EMC PowerEdge C4140, ο καθένας με δύο Intel Xeon Scalable Gold 6252 με ενσωματωμένη επιτάχυνση A.I. και 24 πυρήνες συν τέσσερις επιταχυντές GPU NVIDIA Tesla v100. Οι servers συνδέονται με ένα δίκτυο Mellanox InfiniBand HDR ταχύτητας 200 Gbit/s και χρησιμοποιούν πλήρη τοπολογία χωρίς αποκλεισμό για να εξασφαλίσουν την πιο αποτελεσματική servers and data storage system.

"We are proud of our ten-year partnership with Eni, a company with an international reputation for excellence, innovation and sustainability as a key part of its strategy," said Adrian McDonald, EMEA President, Dell Technologies.

"Eni's mission for sustainability coincides with that of Dell Technologies' vision of how technology can benefit society, and that is just one of the many reasons I am happy to be a technology partner with Eni in the new supercomputer HPC5. "Through partnership we can achieve increasingly ambitious environmental goals."

“Today Eni presents a supercomputer system with main features that are unique in the industry. This system is able to enhance and improve even more the highly complex processes that support them της Eni στις δραστηριότητές τους και, ως εκ τούτου, επιταχύνουν τον ψηφιακό μετασχηματισμό μας. Αυτή είναι μια σημαντική στιγμή στο δρόμο προς την ενεργειακή μετάβαση. Είναι ένα ακόμη βήμα προς τα εμπρός στον παγκόσμιο στόχο που μοιραζόμαστε με τους εταίρους μας στον τομέα της s and hers : to bring the energy of tomorrow even closer", said Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni.
