Apparently there are many who want a piece of the car rental market. Small and medium entrepreneurs they start aggregating vehicles for hire through car sharing services such as Turo and Getaround, or through their own websites.

But somewhere here the problems begin, because not everything is profit. The Wall Street Journal reports:

An owner reported looking for a stolen car and found it abandoned at the Canadian border. Another rented a car that was involved in a shooting, while another said a customer wrecked a Maserati by driving it into a wall.

"It can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing," said Jerome Mends-Cole, who rents more than a dozen Teslas in Sacramento, Calif., through Turo and his own website. It usually isn't. Parking, cleaning, insurance and financing costs can quickly add up. Vehicles must be received, delivered, maintained and repaired. Expenses can quickly exceed income.
