Windows has many system recovery/repair techniques to help you fix something seriously wrong with your computer. You can restore your computer to a previous state, reset, etc. But most of these techniques delete your personal data and all installed applications.
However, Microsoft has provided the “Fix problems using Windows Update” recovery tool on the recovery settings page. Like the repair install method, it tries to fix problems with your computer by reinstalling the operating system.
What you will need:
A PC with Windows 11 version 22H2 or later.
Optional update February 2024 or later installed on the computer.
Note: The tool is not available for work or school account users.
How is it done:
In the search, type recovery options and press Enter.
Select the Reinstall now button next to the “Fix problems using Windows Update” option.
Click the OK button to start the process.
Now, you will be redirected to Windows update settings page. It will download and install the update, which will take a while.
After that, a notification will appear. Click Restart now and then wait for the reinstallation to complete.
Log back into your computer.
Why is this method better than resetting the computer?
Restoring your PC doesn't save installed apps like the Fix problems using Windows Update recovery tool does. Second, you will have to reset your computer, which increases the total time required for the repair.
The Windows 11 installation experience is not straightforward, especially if you have to reset all unnecessary feature permissions. With this option, you don't need to set them up again.
Why use the "Resolve problems using Windows Update" recovery tool when you can do a repair installation?
Why you need a Windows 11 installation media or ISO file to proceed.
The “Resolve problems using Windows Update” method is much faster.
