Problems with electronic systems were initially reported at Brussels, Berlin Brandenburg and London Heathrow airports. At these airports, only manual check-in was possible. Several other European airports reported that their operations were not affected.

It was therefore discovered that the problem is centered on a provider of check-in and boarding systems and not on the airlines or the airports themselves.

Collins Aerospace , whose systems help passengers check-in, print boarding passes and baggage tags, reported a “cyber-related issue” in its MUSE (Multi-User System Environment) software at “select airports.”

Reuters reports that this is “the latest in a series of hacks targeting governments and companies around the world, hitting sectors from healthcare and defense to retail and automotive.”:

A European Commission spokesman said that there were currently no indications of a “widespread or serious attack” and that the origin of the incident was still under investigation.
